Frequently Asked Questions

Are you new to classical music events in Toronto and online? Not sure what to expect from one of our concerts? Or how to enjoy our music online? We hope this guide on the Tafelmusik experience experiencing Tafelmusik will help!

Tafelmusik live concerts are a special experience. Usually, we perform as a chamber orchestra (between 8 and 15 players), and we find this means you can hear every note. Sometimes you’ll see our chamber choir, or a much bigger group with a variety of instruments—it depends on the program. We hope you’ll feel the unique energy of sharing in an in-person musical experience—there’s nothing like it. Concerts at our home venue, Jeanne Lamon Hall, Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre, have an intimate feel, but we also perform at bigger venues, including Koerner Hall and Massey Hall.

All live Tafelmusik concerts at Jeanne Lamon Hall are subject to our Audience Safety Policy, found here. In it you’ll find everything you need to know about our efforts to keep you and each other safe! We know returning to the concert hall can be a hard decision, so please reach out if you have questions about our safety protocols.

We want our concerts to be a safe experience for everyone, and that’s why we offer many easy to access options if you are not able to attend. If you can’t give your ticket to a friend, you can donate the value to Tafelmusik (you’ll get a charitable tax receipt), put the money on your account for future use, or receive a refund.

Whatever you want! Some people like to wear relaxed clothing, and others see a Tafelmusik concert as an opportunity to dress up—it’s up to you.

Flash photography and video recording of any kind are not permitted, but if you want to snap a picture while the orchestra takes a bow, go for it. Venue staff are also available to answer questions if you’re unsure.

We recommend arriving early so you have plenty of time to get to your seat. Jeanne Lamon Hall usually opens 45 minutes before the concert starts. For details on performances at other venues, please check the venue website.

There isn’t on-site parking at Jeanne Lamon Hall, where we usually perform, but there is paid parking available nearby. For more information, visit our Venues page.

Our digital house programs are sent by email on the day the concert premieres. We also provide printed house programs at each concert.

Check out our Venues page for detailed information. Jeanne Lamon Hall, Trinity St-Paul’s Centre, is accessible by ramp and has wheelchair seating available on the ground floor, as well as a fully accessible gender-neutral washroom. If you’re accompanied by a support person, contact our Box Office and we’ll arrange for their ticket at 50% off.

Usually, people clap at the end of a piece, not the end of a movement. You can follow along in your program if you’re unsure. But don’t feel bad if you feel moved to clap at a different time—the orchestra is grateful for your applause, no matter when it happens!

Concerts often have intermissions, which is a great time to enjoy a glass of wine or visit the washroom. Be sure to check your ticket information, the concert page on our website, your program, or call the Box Office for details and timing.

Yes! For most of our live concerts, we’ll send ticketholders a digital chat before the performance. If your concert does not have a chat, we will let you know in your ticketholder information emails.

Most of our concerts are around two hours including intermission, but some (like Handel’s Messiah) are longer. Chamber concerts for families and in the community may be shorter, closer to 30 or 40 minutes.

You’ll find the repertoire and program listing on the concert page on our website or in your program, and you can always call or email the Box Office if you need help.

We send digital programs by email in advance: as a link to a web page. We also provide printed programs at each concert.

There are three options for your tickets. When ordering online, just select the shipping method you prefer. When ordering over the phone from the Box Office, just let our team know your preference and they’ll arrange it for you.

  • Mobile: this will be sent by email as a QR code, which our staff can scan either on your electronic device (like an iPhone), or from a printout
  • Print at Home: also sent by email, this is sent by email as a PDF with a barcode, which our staff can scan on your electronic device, or from a printout
  • Box Office pickup: select this option and you’ll need to pick up your tickets from the Box Office before the concert. We recommend you arrive about an hour before the concert starts in case there’s a line. Please note there is a $1 fee for Box Office pickup.

We know everyone does their best to be on time, but sometimes being late can’t be avoided. Our Front of House Manager will tell you when it’s ok to go in—the amount of time you’ll have to wait will vary depending on the pieces being played.

The great thing about digital concerts is that you control the venue: join us in your PJs with a cup of tea (or a glass of wine), have a watch party with your friends and family, or just sit back with your headphones and enjoy the music. Join us for our Digital Season Pass and you can watch at night, during your lunch break, or over dinner—it’s up to you!

Review our handy guide, How-to-Access, for tips and best practices to get the most out of your digital concert experience. Log on a few minutes early, or better yet, try out our test showcase found here (password 12345) to make sure your audio and video are working properly before the event.

Our Digital Season Pass is  available online, and if you’re having trouble purchasing you can call our Box Office for assistance at 1 (833) 964-6337 or email tickets@tafelmusik.org.

Tickets to our digital concerts are sent by email, in most cases as a link and password. We’ll also include the link and password in your order confirmation (your receipt) so you’ll have it right away.

With our 2024/25 Digital Season Pass, you get to watch all the concerts from their premiere time up until August 31, 2025.

With our Digital Series Pass you can watch as often as you want, so no need to worry! Concerts premiere at a set time, and can be watched over and over again afterwards.

It’s so frustrating when that happens. Click here for tips, and here to find out how our Box Office can help.

You can find the full listing on the concert page on our website, and our digital concerts have title cards listing the repertoire and composer. We’ll also send you a link to the program listing in your concert information email, which is sent two days before the concert.

You’ll receive your digital house program by email on the day the concert premieres. If you buy a Digital Season Pass, you’ll receive a special link to past digital programs.

Most Tafelmusik digital performances are around 70 minutes. If you check the concert page on the website, we’ll list our best estimate.

Most of our digital programs don’t feature an intermission.
