We were saddened to hear of the passing last week of the esteemed German recording producer Wolf Erichson. We had the great honour of working with Wolf for many years. Wolf was one of Europe’s leading producers, and had worked for the great pioneers of the early music movement: Gustav Leonhardt, Nicolaus Harnoncourt, and Frans Brüggen, among others. It was with some nervousness and much excitement that a young Tafelmusik Orchestra entered into our first recording with the master, of Corelli Concerti Grossi, in 1988. We went on to record 45 CDs with Wolf, and it is those recordings which allowed us to establish an international reputation. It was also Wolf who introduced us to the German conductor, Bruno Weil, with whom we worked closely for over 25 years — he thought we might be a good match, and he was right! We learned so much from the wise voice on the other side of the microphone, and are very lucky to have had the great privilege of collaborating with him.
Wolf passed away on October 17, 2019 at the age of 91.
