2026/27 School Performances

Out of this World: Tafelmusik in Space

Tafelmusik has a rich history of engaging with the community via educational, curriculum-based outreach in the GTA and beyond. This season, Tafelmusik is excited to present Out of this World: Tafelmusik in Space, by Juno award-winning children’s programmer, Alison Mackay.

Out of this World: Tafelmusik in Space, was created in 2009 as a companion piece to Alison Mackay’s internationally acclaimed mainstage program, The Galileo Project. These programs commemorated the International Year of Astronomy, marking the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s development and use of the astronomical telescope. Told through the eyes of Halley’s Comet, the School Performances will explore the artistic, cultural and scientific changes that took place during the time in which Galileo lived and worked, and the corresponding years Halley’s Comet appeared in the night sky during the baroque period.

Tafelmusik’s School Performances go beyond the concert experience by providing accompanying in-class learning materials. Our Teacher Guide supports curriculum linkages to music, dance, art, drama, history and science. We strive to help teachers connect field trips with classroom goals to provide a well-rounded experience.

Out of this World: Tafelmusik in Space is a FREE concert for registered schools being held in Jeanne Lamon Hall, Trinity St. Paul’s Centre on April 28 & 29, 2027 at 10:30 am and 12:15 pm on both dates. If you have any questions or would like more information on how to register your school, please contact Sarah Belle Walsh, Education Manager, at swalsh@tafelmusik.org or 1-833-964-6337 x 238.

Previous School Performances and Classroom Visits

At the heart of Tafelmusik’s educational programming are our school performances, welcoming students to the concert hall for exciting and age-appropriate educational programming. In the 2025/26 Season, Tafelmusik welcomed over 3000 Grade 3-7 students for four interactive and engaging performances.

Prior to these performances, thousands of students experienced the joy of music with Tafelmusik in their own classrooms. In 2025/26, violinist Patricia Ahern and oboist Daniel Ramírez Escudero visited eight schools across the GTA, offering a hands-on experience with early music—a first encounter for many. The musicians also shared their own journeys into music, including Patricia’s memorable account of being moved to pick up the violin after witnessing an orchestra classroom visit in Grade 2—a beautiful reminder of how a single moment can spark a lifelong passion.

Tafelmusik’s school performances and classroom visits have been a resounding success, and a testament to what becomes possible when generosity meets artistry. Our deepest gratitude goes to our education program donors, whose support transforms these encounters from aspiration into reality.
