Black lives matter.

We, like you, have been listening to Black voices within and outside our community these past two weeks, and reflecting deeply on our learnings. We wanted to take the time internally to meet, discuss, and ensure that our long-term actions would be as meaningful as our words.

As a largely white organisation, we recognize our privilege and lack of personal perspective on the painful experiences Black, Indigenous, and people of colour face every day.

We are holding ourselves accountable and want to actively learn and help uplift the voices of Black people. As we learn and evolve, we promise to be open to criticisms and discussion. We promise to seek out, and most importantly, compensate, experts in diversity, equity, and inclusion, to help us develop our next steps as an organization.

We at Tafelmusik condemn racism, violence, and discrimination of any kind. To show our commitment as allies of Black, Indigenous, and people of colour, this is what our beginning actions look like.

  1. Tafelmusik leadership has purchased and will take Rachel Ricketts’ online anti-racist training.

  2. We will continue to be an equal opportunity employer, inclusive of all Black, Indigenous, people of colour, and LGBTQ2S+ persons, and will work to ensure authentic representation at all levels of our organisation.

  3. We have donated to Food Share Toronto and Women’s Health in Women’s Hands
