The Canadian flautist, Claire Guimond, graduated from McGill University; she then studied baroque flute with Barthold Kuijken, obtaining a certificate from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.

In 1981, along with three other Montréal musicians, Chantal Rémillard, Betsy MacMillan and Hank Knox, Claire founded Arion Ensemble, whose popular regular season concerts continue to grace the city’s musical life. With Arion Ensemble, Claire Guimond has toured extensively in Europe, Canada, Mexico, the US, and South America, and has made and has made over 15 recordings recordings, including De Paris à Versailles, Mythologie, Conversations en musique, three of Georg Philipp Telemann’s Quatuors parisiens, and J.S. Bach’s Musical Offering.

Claire Guimond is a leading baroque flautist, recognized first in Canada and now well established on the world scene. She features in radio and TV broadcasts with CBC and BBC. She plays at many festivals in Europe and North America, and is a regular participant in the Lamèque International Early Music Festival. Claire is a frequent performer, both in soloist and ensemble roles, with such highly regarded baroque ensembles as Toronto’s Tafelmusik, Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, La Chapelle Royale (director Philippe Herreweghe) in Paris, Salomon String Quartet in London, and Ensemble Baroque de Limoges(director Christophe Coin), and under such distinguished conductors as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Philippe HerrewegheMonica Huggett, Ton Koopman, Barthold Kuijken, Nicholas McGegan, Andrew Parrott, Jordi Savall and Bruno Weil.

Claire Guimond has an extensive discography of over 30 recordings distributed internationally. As well as Arion Ensemble, these feature harpsichordists Gary Cooper and Luc Beauséjour, cellist Jaap ter Linden, and violinist Monica Huggett. With Luc Beauséjour she recorded the Six Sonatas of Op. 91 by Bodin de Boismortier.
