This weekend would have marked the finale of our Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute: a world-renowned training program for advanced students, pre-professional, and professional musicians in baroque performance practice.

In honour of this, TBSI Artistic Coordinator and faculty harpsichordist Charlotte Nediger gathered some of TBSI's alumni to record a special remote performance. Read a message from Charlotte below, and watch their video here.

"June 13 would have been the final day of the 2020 Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute. The 95 participants would have joined the faculty on stage for the Grand Finale concert, the culmination of two weeks of intensive study, hard work, and inspiring music-making. At the back of the orchestra, there are always four harpsichords lined up in a row, and the members of the harpsichord class assemble for the unusual experience of playing continuo four at a time. Most years, they also can’t resist reading through Bach’s Concerto for 4 harpsichords during a rehearsal break. This inspired me to record the concerto this year with three wonderful Canadian harpsichordists, all TBSI alumni—recorded separately in our homes in Quebec City (Lysiane Boulva), Toronto (Wesley Shen and me), and Vancouver (Christina Hutten). In celebration of TBSI, we’ve overlaid photos from past years, in which you can sense the special energy that is the TBSI spirit. Enjoy!" —Charlotte Nediger, TBSI Artistic Coordinator
