From all of us at Tafelmusik, we want to thank you immensely for the outpouring of love regarding the recent passing of our Music Director Emerita, Jeanne Lamon, C.M. O.Ont. While our grief is immense, it is clear through the thousands of messages we’ve received—from musicians, organizations, students, and patrons—that Jeanne’s life touched so many people in profound and lasting ways.
Below, we wanted to share several tributes to Jeanne: both from us at Tafelmusik, and from other organizations whose lives Jeanne touched.
The Galileo Project
In memory of Jeanne, Tafelmusik will be streaming The Galileo Project: Music of the Spheres for one full week, beginning Friday, June 25 at 7pm EDT.
Led by Jeanne Lamon and conceived by former double bassist Alison Mackay, The Galileo Project was the orchestra’s first fully-memorized multimedia program. Workshopped at the Banff Centre in 2009, and premiered in Toronto, it is one of Tafelmusik’s most toured multimedia programs, having travelled throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. In this stunning filmed version, Jeanne features prominently: her leadership, virtuosity, and trademark smile are on full display.
We invite you to join us online this Friday, June 25 at 7pm EDT for the live premiere, where a chat function will be available for those who wish to participate, reminisce, and share stories about Jeanne. This free broadcast will be available to watch and re-watch through to Friday, July 2, 2021 at 6:59pm EDT.

A Tribute from Opera Atelier
Our friends and frequent collaborators, Opera Atelier, shared a touching tribute to Jeanne. Penned by Co-Artistic Director and Director Marshall Pynkoski C.M., and Co-Artistic Director and Choreographer Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg C.M., the post shares their last direct communication from Jeanne: recounting a story of their performance together in Paris, France, days after the Bataclan terrorist attack. In their words, "It seems a fitting tribute to Jeanne, to share this email with you in its entirety."
