It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of our dear friend and beloved superfan, Al Forest. For over three decades, Al’s unwavering support and boundless enthusiasm for Tafelmusik touched the hearts of all who knew him. He first attended our concerts in 1992 and quickly became “one of the band.”
Al’s passion for music was contagious—he attended our concerts with unmatched excitement, traveling to Europe and the USA to follow us on tour. His love for the music was palpable, and he never hesitated to let it move him to tears. We loved seeing him come into the hall with his signature red jacket, music necktie, and vintage Tafelmusik pin. Not to mention the banners. Al was a champion maker of banners, unfurling them from the balcony at the end of concerts to great applause. His most recent creation, a banner reading “We Love You Rachel Podger” revealed at our Mozart Jupiter concert in September, was just one example of how Al sincerely celebrated the musicians and the music he adored.
In addition to his enthusiasm at our concerts, Al’s annual “love letters” to Tafelmusik were heartfelt messages of support for the orchestra, choir, and team. His inspiring words helped us all remember that music is more than bows and strings, reeds and rehearsals. Music is the language of the soul, and our mission, as the makers and stewards of that music, is the practice of inspiring souls.
Al, you were a true friend and champion of Tafelmusik. Our hearts are broken, and we will miss you dearly. Thank you for sharing your love for music with us all.
With deepest sympathy,
The Band (aka Tafelmusik Orchestra and Chamber Choir)
and The Tafelmusik Team
