Mr. Handel is coming to town! As he’s done for almost four decades, George himself will be directing Sing-Along Messiah, and is sure to have some tricks up his voluminous baroque sleeves. Join the 2,000 audience members gathered to “raise the roof” at Toronto’s historic Massey Hall. Sing along with a glittering cast of soloists and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir in this joyous and unforgettable experience.

Stefanie True

Soprano

Canadian soprano Stefanie True was born in Sherbrooke, Québec and studied Early Music at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Operatic appearances have included Poppea in Handel Agrippina (The Grange Festival); Oriana in Handel Amadigi and Clomiri in Handel Imeneo (Göttingen Handel Festival); Belinda in Purcell Dido and Aeneas (Tage Alter Musik Regensburg), Céphise in Campra L’Europe Galante (Ambronnay Festival); and various roles in Purcell King Arthur (Vox Luminis). She created the role of Cécile de Volanges in Opera2Day’s version of Dangerous Liaisons.

In concert, she sings regularly with Vox Luminis, and has appeared with the Academy of Ancient Music, Les Violons du Roy, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, La Risonanza, Netherlands Bach Society, De Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. She has given solo recitals in numerous European festivals.

Her recordings include Dussek Messe Solemnelle (Academy of Ancient Music); Mannaggia Amore (La Cicala); Morin French Cantatas (Ensemble Lautenwerk); Buxtehude Abendmusiken, Purcell King Arthur, Bach Magnificat, Bach cantatas, and Charpentier Orphée aux enfers (Vox Luminis); and Purcell Dido & Aeneas, and Lully’s Ballets & Récits Italiens (La Risonanza).

Krisztina Szabó

Mezzo-Soprano

Hungarian-Canadian mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabó is highly sought after as an artist of supreme musicianship and stagecraft. She is known for her interpretation of baroque music as well as her promotion and performance of contemporary Canadian works. She has appeared on all the major opera and concert stages across Canada, and performs regularly with the Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera, Tapestry Opera, Early Music Vancouver, and Tafelmusik.

International appearances include San Francisco Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, and Wexford Festival Opera. In 2018, Krisztina made her Royal Opera and Netherlands Opera débuts in George Benjamin’s new opera, Lessons in Love and Violence, the recording of which received a Grammy nomination for Best Opera Recording. Her discography includes New Jewish Music, Vol. 3 (Analekta), Ana Sokolovic – Sirens (Naxos), and Talisker Players Where Words and Music Meet (Centrediscs). 

Krisztina Szabó is Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera at the University of British Columbia School of Music.

Nicholas Scott

Tenor

Praised for his “sonorous timbre” and “remarkable diction” (Olyrix), British tenor Nicholas Scott enjoys a busy career with extensive experience in the field of early music.

Recent highlights included two European tours singing Eumete in Monteverdi Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria with ensemble I Gemelli, concert series with both Le Banquet Céleste and Les Ambassadeurs, and solo debuts with Early Music Vancouver, Montreal Bach Festival and Orquesta Ciudad de Grenada. He sang the role of Renaud in Lully Armide at the Drottningholm Theatre, and sang Paulino in Handel Titus l’Empereur at the Handel Festival in Halle (Opera Settecento Company). Past notable engagements include appearances with Dunedin Consort, Les Talents Lyriques, Arion Baroque, Les Arts Florissants, and Cappella Mediterranea.

Nicholas Scott’s extensive discography includes Grands motets de Versailles à Venise (Les Ombres); Sacrifice (La Nuova Musica); Cavalli Egisto, Lully Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, Anamorfisi, and Lully Cadmus & Hermione (Le Poème Harmonique), Handel Chandos Anthems (l’Opéra Royal de Versailles), Les Maîtres du Motet (Les Arts Florissants), and Le Souffle de la Révolution (Arion Ensemble).

Jonathan Woody

Bass-Baritone

American bass-baritone Jonathan Woody is a versatile and dynamic musician who maintains an active schedule as a performer and composer in New York and across North America. Cited for singing “with resonance and clarity (Washington Post),” Woody appears regularly with historically informed ensembles, including Boston Early Music Festival, Apollo’s Fire, Pacific MusicWorks, Bach Collegium San Diego, Trinity Baroque Orchestra and New York Baroque Incorporated. An accomplished chamber musician, Woody often performs as a member of the GRAMMY®-nominated Choir of Trinity Wall Street, and has recently performed in collaboration with Kaleidoscope Ensemble, Les Délices, Seraphic Fire, Byron Schenkman and Friends, and TENET Vocal Artists.

Woody’s compositional voice blends 17th and 18th-century inspiration with the minimalism and socially conscious subject matter of today. He has received commissions from Apollo’s Fire, the Choir of Trinity Wall Street, Chanticleer, Handel and Haydn Society, the Cathedral Choral Society of Washington, D.C., the Five Boroughs Music Festival. As a sought-after new music proponent, Jonathan has premiered works by several leading composers’ works.

Jonathan most recent appearance with Tafelmusik was as soloist, narrator and composer for Alison Mackay’s 2024 multimedia creation Staircases.
