May 31, 2019 … Tafelmusik Chamber Choir is in Alberta for the first time tonight to perform at the Edmonton International Choral Festivalat 8 PM at Robertson-Wesley United Church. Directed by Ivars Taurins, the choir will perform motets by J.S. Bach along with music by his mentor and cousin, Johann Christoph Bach, accompanied by organist Christopher Bagan. Tafelmusik violinist Cristina Zacharias will interweave movements from Bach’s partitas and sonatas for solo violin. Complete program details are available at yegchoralfestival.com.

The Edmonton International Choral Festival (EICF) features professional international and Canadian choirs and renowned guest conductors and engages local choirs and individual singers throughout the community. Now in its second year, the EICF welcomes artists from the Republic of Georgia and Venezuela, along with Canadian choirs and conductors.
As part of the EICF, Ivars Taurins also leads a workshop on Performance Practice for the Modern Musician. Using baroque treatises and scores, he will explore the general and specific theoretical and stylistic issues of 17th and 18th century music, providing a historically informed basis for the interpretive decisions we make as 21st century musicians.
