Director of Development
Tafelmusik is seeking an experienced and strategic individual to act as the organization’s lead Development strategist and principal fundraiser. The incumbent will join a dynamic and collaborative senior leadership team in one of Canada’s most high-profile and innovative musical ensembles.
The ideal candidate will have proven success as a fundraising leader with experience in the full spectrum of fundraising programs, including annual and major giving, and corporate and foundation partnerships, and planned giving.
Reporting to the Executive Director and leading a Development team of two, the successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive planning, oversight and implementation of Development strategy with the overarching goal to increase revenue. Responsible for a portfolio of individual, foundation and corporate donors, the incumbent will be skilled at nurturing and sustaining donor relationships, will identify and pursue growth opportunities, and cultivate an organizational culture of philanthropy to support fundraising success.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish, articulate, and promote the Development case for support and strategy to meet financial goals.
- Ensure strategic and timely execution of all Development initiatives, including annual, major and planned giving, and corporate and foundation partnerships.
- Identify and implement strategies to ensure fundraising revenue diversification and growth and guide the organization-wide approach to donor acquisition.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on successful renewal and acquisition of Government funding.
- Develop and monitor fundraising revenue and expense budgets and provide ongoing reporting and analysis of projections and results.
- Oversee all aspects of donor relationship management and results of personal portfolio of 50+ prospects, including individual and institutional major donors and sponsors $5,000+.
- Mentor and guide the Associate Director of Development in the execution of the annual giving donor program, including digital and direct mail, donor acquisition, and stewardship.
- Collaborate with Marketing on alignment of fundraising and marketing objectives and optimization of opportunities for growth.
- Act as a spokesperson for Tafelmusik and build meaningful relationships by proactively engaging in donor meetings and interacting with donors at performances and events.
- Offer input and advocate for fundraising requirements within Tafelmusik.
- Provide guidance and partnership to colleagues and Board members to enhance fundraising skills and encourage increased involvement in Development activity.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board and staff team to ensure that internal culture, resources, technology, and operational plans are aligned to support a culture of philanthropy and fundraising success.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Demonstrable track record in fundraising, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in planning, implementing, personal cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Proven success in executing fundraising strategies including: annual giving, leadership/major gifts, direct response and events
- Deep experience in planning and delivering comprehensive donor stewardship.
- Advanced knowledge of working with donor database (Tessitura or equivalent)
- Experience in donor research, data mining & analysis
- Skilled at Microsoft Office
- Team player with superb and genuine people skills
- Experience in setting and meeting fundraising objectives.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills, and an ability to persuasively convey Tafelmusik’s vision to a diverse array of people.
- Experience of working with senior volunteers and/or Board Members
Desirable
- Knowledge of classical music and the performing arts scene in the GTA
- CFRE is an asset.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time position. Please note that there is an amount of evening and weekend work.
