Production Assistant
Contracted, Part-time
Join the team of one of Canada’s most high-profile and innovative musical ensembles.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Assistant will provide valuable support for rehearsal and concert-related activities, responsible for properly setting up and striking rehearsals, providing professional assistance to the Tafelmusik musicians, and working closely with the Tafelmusik Choir Director.
This position involves evening and weekend work in line with orchestra and choir schedules.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and strike rehearsal and concert-related materials, including but not limited to chairs, music stands, risers, lights, and instruments before and after the rehearsals
- Monitor rehearsals and assist musicians as needed
- Track rehearsal timing and announce break start/end to facilitate on-time return of musicians
- Serve as point of contact for rehearsal questions and concerns
- Run errands during rehearsals or concerts as needed
- Assist the Production Manager with production/technical inventories and assets maintenance and organization
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Must be available on evenings 6pm-10pm (2023 Oct 31, Nov 7, 14, 28, 29 Dec 5 / 2024 Feb 13, 20, 17, Apr 23, May 7, 14, 21)
- Flexible availability, including evening and weekend hours
- Proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 40-45lbs
- Ability to bend, stretch, reach, and kneel without restriction
- Good manual dexterity and ability to lift and carry fragile objects
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Clear and direct communication skills
- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
Desirable
- Interest in opportunity for advancement in Stage Management
- Seeking long-term part-time contract
- Knowledge of and passion for classical music and the performing arts
- Class G driver’s license and access to vehicle
TARGET CONTRACT DATES:
October 2023–June 2024
An approximate average of 20 hours per month, with the potential of additional time.
Rate: $20.00/hr, invoiced weekly or monthly
