Ontario 2016 Tour: Bach and His World |
Feb 17-22, 2016Who are the baroque craftsmen who helped J.S. Bach realize his genius? From the moment that Bach was inspired to create a new orchestral work, he required the talents and labour of dozens of artisans and performers to bring his music to life. Bach and His World is a performance of stunning works by Bach, including Sinfonias from BWV 249a and BWV 11, the Third Brandenburg Concerto, and excerpts from the First Orchestral Suite. Our performance of instrumental works by Bach explores the fascinating personalities who carved violins, hand pulled brass harpsichord strings and tapped pine trees for the resin that would set gut strings into vibration. The concert is a guide to the craft of baroque performance and a celebration of all those who helped J.S. Bach realize his genius and create the musical legacy which still reverberates in our world today. Bach and His World is offered in evening performance and school concert formats. Community concerts are all approximately 70 minutes in length with no intermission School concerts are all approximately one hour in length Repertoire and Artists are subject to change without notice. Versailles, France Lully Persée w/ Opera Atelier | ||
May 19-26, 2014 | Opera Atelier’s 2004 production of Lully’s Persée, featuring the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, was the subject of a documentary that has subsequently become an international calling card for Opera Atelier, both for the public and for presenters around the world. Following the astounding success of Lully’s Armide in 2012, The Royal Opera House has invited Opera Atelier back to Versailles with Persée, which will mark the first time the opera has appeared on that stage since 1770. Persée will be performed three times at The Royal Opera House, Versailles: May 23, 24, and 25, 2014. This prestigious engagement has allowed Opera Atelier to enhance Persée’s visual elements, making it the company’s most lavish production to date. The moving story of a man’s ascension from his questionable beginnings to his rightful place as a god, Persée is a retelling of the classical Greek Perseus myth.May 23, 24, and 25, 2014, The Royal Opera House, Versailles | Versailles, France |
