Jana Miller, soprano
Raised in Nova Scotia, Jana Miller is a Berlin-based soprano with a repertoire spanning from early to contemporary music. Trained at McGill University, the Banff Centre and the Franz Schubert Institut in Austria, Jana has received prizes from Canada Council for the Arts, SSHRC, the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation, and the Austrian Society of Montreal. Influential teachers include Marie Daveluy, Sanford Sylvan, Michael McMahon, and Jan Simons. Jana made her Tafelmusik debut in Bach Christmas Oratorio in our 2015/16 season, and her latest appearance was in Bach Magnificat in our 2018/19 season. When not singing, Jana takes great joy in adventuring along with her husband, conductor Jordan de Souza, and their young daughter. More info
Krisztina Szabó, mezzo-soprano
The wonderful Toronto-based mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabó first appeared on the Tafelmusik stage in Handel Messiah in our 2016/17 season. Krisztina is highly sought after in both North America and Europe as an artist of supreme musicianship and stagecraft, and has become known for her promotion and performance of contemporary Canadian works. She has been nominated twice for a Dora Award for Outstanding Female Performance. Krisztina was recently featured as a soloist with Tafelmusik in both Steffani: Drama & Devotion and Handel Messiah in the 2018/19 season. We look forward to welcoming her again in the 2020/21 season in Vivaldi's Choral Colours. More info
Charles Daniels, tenor
Charles Daniels’ repertoire extends 1,150 years from the ninth century to the present day. He received his musical training at King’s College, Cambridge, and the Royal College of Music in London. The English tenor is particularly noted for his performances of baroque music, and he is a frequent soloist with Nederlands Bachveriging and The King's Consort. Charles has been featured as a soloist with Tafelmusik for many seasons since his debut on the Tafelmusik stage in November 1999 in Purcell's King Arthur. He joins us again this season in Bach St John Passion as tenor soloist and the Evangelist. He last portrayed the Evangelist with Tafelmusik in our 2014/15 season.
William Sharp, baritone
The Grammy-nominated baritone William Sharp made his Tafelmusik debut as a featured soloist in Leonhardt conducts Bach in our 1991/92 season. William has joined Tafelmusik on numerous occasions including in Handel Messiah in our 1992/93 season; Bach Chrismas Oratorio in our 1993/94 season; Bach St Matthew Passion in our 1995/96 season; and The Worlds of Salomone Rossi in our 2004/05 season. More recently, William taught in our annual Baroque Summer Institute in the summer of 2018, and joins us again this summer as a vocal faculty. More info
Andrew Mahon, bass-baritone
Canadian-British bass-baritone Andrew Mahon has appeared as a soloist across the UK, Canada, and Europe, performing both concert and operatic repertoire. Andrew has been featured as a soloist with us after singing in the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir from 2004 to 2009. Andrew made his solo debut with Tafelmusik as Petrus and Pilatus in the 2008/09 season performance of Bach St Matthew Passion. He returned as a soloist in Handel Israel in Egypt in the 2009/10 season, and in Glorious Bach & Zelenka in the 2011/12 season. Andrew is a 2004 and 2005 alum of our annual Baroque Summer Insitute.
