Alison Melville

Alison MelvilleToronto-born Alison Melville began her musical life in a school classroom in London (UK). To her delight, her subsequent career as a player of historical flutes and recorders has taken her across North America and to New Zealand, Iceland, Japan, and Europe. Besides making regular appearances with Tafelmusik as orchestral player and/or soloist, Alison is a member of The Toronto Consort, Ensemble Polaris, and Artistic Co-Director of North Wind Concerts, and collaborates in many varied artistic endeavours in Canada and beyond. Some personal career highlights include playing for the CBC’s The Friendly Giant and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azbakan with the Toronto Symphony; solo shows in inner-city London (UK) schools; an improvised duet for baroque flute and acrobat in northern Finland; and, oh yes, a summer of concerts in Ontario prisons. Alison can be heard on over 65 CDs, including several critically acclaimed solo recordings. She taught for many years at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, is currently on faculty at the University of Toronto, and teaches at early music workshops across North America. Alison’s extra-musical pleasures include print making and tea drinking. For more information please see alisonmelville.com.
