A native of California, Dominic Teresi is in his seventh season as principal bassoon with Tafelmusik. In demand on dulcian and baroque, classical and modern bassoons, Dominic’s playing has received critical acclaim: “it was Teresi who stole the evening with his breath-stopping bassoon skills… Teresi has, somehow, managed to plumb every technical trick while also shaping the
music with great skill” (Toronto Star); “Among [Tafelmusik’s] best and most supple work was a lively account of a bassoon concerto, with Dominic Teresi
playing the solo line gracefully” (New York Times); “Dominic Teresi
reminded us of the expressive powers of the bassoon” (The Globe and Mail).
Dominic has also worked with Le Concert d’Astrée, Boston Early Music
Festival Orchestra, Chatham Baroque, Spiritus Collective, Toronto Consort,
Ensemble Arion and Apollo’s Fire among others. In 2006, he was invited to be
a featured artist on CBC Radio’s Music Around Us, performing a live radio
concert of bassoon solos, concertos and chamber music. He has
recorded several CDs with Tafelmusik and is a featured soloist on
Tafelmusik’s Concerti Virtuosi CD, nominated for a 2006 Juno award. Other
recent CD releases include Sweet Desire, a compelling collection of
17th-century music with Chatham Baroque. Dominic is a newly appointed
faculty member at the Juilliard School and the University of Toronto. He
also teaches at Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute and Amherst Early Music
Festival, and has given masterclasses at Oberlin Conservatory, the University
of Wisconsin at Madison and Puerto Rico Conservatory. Dominic holds a
Master of Music degree and an Artist Diploma in modern bassoon from Yale
University, a Médaille d'or from the Conservatoire National de Region in
Bordeaux, France, and is a doctoral candidate at Indiana University. He
lives in Toronto with his wife, Sharon, and their two young children, David
and Mira.
