After studies at Cornell University and SUNY at Stony Brook, Thomas Georgi moved to Australia where he was a violinist in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and an active exponent of early music as a founding member of the Badinerie Players. Since joining the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra he has broadened his musical horizons to include the viola d’amore, performing solos on that instrument across North America, in Europe and in Japan. His website, www.violadamore.com, promotes the wider understanding of the instrument with pictures, videos, free sound files, and summaries of the history and literature of the instrument. The first two of Tom’s solo CDs, dedicated to Attilio Ariosti’s Stockholm Sonatas, have been released on the Bis label, and may also be downloaded directly from sites such as www.eclassical.com. The third is to be released in 2008, and includes Emma Kirkby singing Pur al fin. A series of works for viola d’amore, edited from the original manuscripts by Georgi, are being published by Prima la Musica.
